Tracking Hepatitis C: Early Warning System For Disease Outbreaks Demoed

As part of a Sandia National Laboratories-led effort to create a worldwide disease tracking network, hospital emergency rooms in three New Mexico cities and in a formerly secret Russian city have begun gathering and posting on the Internet information about hepatitis C, a disease that physicians say could have major world health implications.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimates that 3.9 million Americans are chronically infected with hepatitis C.
