Legislation Would Establish Hepatitis C Screening Program in New Jersey

The New Jersey Assembly Health Committee has released legislation that would establish a hepatitis C screening program in that state.

The bill, A-1860, would ensure prompt notification to the proper authorities of all hepatitis C cases and add diagnosed cases of hepatitis C to the list of communicable diseases required to be reported to the state's Department of Health and Senior Services in outpatient-based settings and hospitals. Presently, only clinical laboratories are required to report cases of hepatitis C.
