Newly Identified TTV Virus Occurs Worldwide

Two new studies examining a transfusion-transmissible virus first identified in Japanese liver patients a year ago offer both good news and bad.

While both reports found the virus to have worldwide distribution (the bad news), a study from London's Institute of Hepatology suggests it has little or no clinical impact.

The DNA virus, first detected in a high prevalence of Japanese hepatitis patients, was found to be common in patients with liver disease living in the United Kingdom in the Institute of Hepatology study reported by Nikolai V.
