"Hepatitis B Virus X Protein Interacts With NF-KB Inhibitors."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 33rd Annual Meeting of The European Association for the Study of Liver Disease, held April 15-18, 1998, in Lisbon, Portugal, "An important component of the regulation of the immune system is the rapid transcriptional activation of genes by the NF-KB signalling pathway. Activation of extracellular receptors (like TNFa-R or IL-1-R) or activators of second messengers (e.g. phorbol esters) results in serine phosphorylation of NF-KB inhibitors, the IKB proteins, and their subsequent degradation which in turns allow NF-KB to translocate into the nucleus.
