BCG Vaccination Prompts Arthritis

Researchers in the United Kingdom report a case of arthritis developing after bacillus Calmette-Guerin vaccination in a healthy woman.

Although the complication has been seen infrequently in people who are given bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination for bladder cancer, this is the first report of its occurrence in a seemingly immunocompetent person, according to researchers V.R.R. Kodali and R.B. Clague ("Arthritis After BCG Vaccine in a Healthy Woman," Journal of Internal Medicine, August 1998;244(2):183-184).
