"Prevalence of Antibodies to the E2 Protein of GB Virus C/Hepatitis G Virus in HIV Infected Patients."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 38th Annual Conference on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention, held March 18-21, 1998, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, "Background: GB virus C/hepatitis G virus (HGV) is a recently discovered infectious agent, transmitted parenterally and sexually, and from an HGV-infected mother to her child. GBV-C/HGV genome is detected by PCR, and antibodies occur after the loss of RNA in the serum. Numerous reports have documented a high prevalence of GBVC/HGV in different population groups, but few of them in immunocompromised patients.
