Haplotypes Predict IFN Response

The presence of HLA-B54 and HLA-A24-DR4 haplotype are good predictors of poor response to interferon therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C.

In this study, I. Kikuchi and colleagues compared HLA alleles in patients with chronic hepatitis C treated with interferon-alpha (IFN-(alpha)) to IFN nonresponders ("The Effect of HLA Alleles on Response to Interferon Therapy in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C," European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, October 1998;10(10):859-863)..
