"Reduced Therapeutic Response in Black verses White Patients Treated with Interferon alpha-2b Plus Ribavirin for Hepatitis C."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 36th Annual Meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, held November 12-15, 1998, in Denver, Colorado, "Interferon alpha-2b (IFN-(alpha)2b) monotherapy produces permanent clearance of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) in only about 15% of patients. We developed a multicenter trial to see if oral ribavirin plus IFN-(alpha)2b would enhance the rapidity of response and permanent clearance of HCV in patients who previously failed IFN-(alpha)2b monotherapy.
