Combination Therapy Advances to Phase III Trials

Enzon, Inc., Piscataway, New Jersey, announced that Schering-Plough Corp. has initiated Phase III clinical trials for combination therapy of PEG-INTRON and Rebetol (ribavirin) for the treatment of hepatitis C.

PEG-INTRON is a modified form of Schering-Plough's INTRON A (interferon alfa-2b, recombinant) which was developed using Enzon's PEG technology to have longer-acting properties and the potential to offer an improved side-effect profile.

PEG-INTRON is also in Phase III clinical trials for two cancer indications, malignant melanoma and chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), as well as early stage trials for various solid tumors.
