Anti-E1 May Be Marker of HCV Recurrence in OLT Patients

Envelope-specific humoral immune response may be directly stimulated by hepatitis C virus replication in liver transplant recipients, researchers from the United Kingdom report.

Patients who receive liver transplants for hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related cirrhosis usually remain anti-HCV-seropositive after transplantation. The aim of this study was to characterize, longitudinally, the profile of HCV-specific antibodies and cryoglobulins in liver transplant recipients with recurrent HCV infection ("Antibodies to Hepatitis C Virus Envelope Proteins Correlate with Hepatitis C Viremia After Liver Transplantation," Transplantation, January 1999;67(1):78-84).
