"HCV Surrogates Among Blood Donors Implicated in HCV Transmission."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 51st Annual Meeting of the American Association of Blood Banks, held October 31 - November 4, 1998, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, "Background: Past analyses of ALT and anti-HBc as surrogates for donor NANB infection required all donors to any infected recipient be considered equally implicated. This reduced the estimated efficiency of the tests. Identifying the HCV(+) donor for each recipient permits classification of all donors to cases as infected or non-infected.
