Mortality Higher in Renal Transplants with Hepatitis

A long-term follow-up study of kidney transplant patients with chronic hepatitis infection found their mortality to be greater than transplant patients without hepatitis infection.

The impact of infection with hepatotropic viruses (hepatitis B virus [HBV] and hepatitis C virus [HCV]) on morbidity and mortality, and allograft function in renal transplant recipients with allografts functioning for more than 20 years has not been widely studied.
