Influence of Cytokines on Hepatitis Evaluated

The relationship between hepatitis etiology and cytokine response with regard to liver disease was examined by researchers from New York's MGN Medical Research Laboratory.

"The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of infection by hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, and G in liver biopsy specimens from symptomatic patients and to correlate viral localization with the expression of interferon, interleukin, and tumor necrosis factor messenger RNA," G.J. Nuovo wrote ("Histologic Distribution of Hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, and G with Concomitant Cytokine Response in Liver Tissue," Diagn Mol Pathol, October 1998;7(5):267-275).
