As sanitary conditions of a population improve, hepatitis A virus infection occurs at higher ages, thus decreasing the prevalence of antibodies against the virus.
In this survey, S. Riedemann and colleagues assessed the prevalence of antibodies against hepatitis A virus in school age children living in Valdivia, Chile ("Prevalence of Antibodies Against Hepatitis A In Chilean School Children," Rev Med Chil, 1998;126(10):1161-164).
