Real-Time Detection System Qualifies HCV Genome

A real-time detection system aimed at qualifying the hepatitis C virus genome will advance the diagnostic and drug monitoring process in patients with chronic hepatitis C, according to a report from Japan.

For diagnosis of hepatitis C virus infection and monitoring of viral load in patients, a highly sensitive and accurate hepatitis C virus quantification system is essential.

In this study, T. Takeuchi and colleagues from the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Science evaluated such a system ("Real-Time Detection System for Quantification of Hepatitis C Virus Genome," Gastroenterology, March 1999;116(3):636-642).
