According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 51st Annual Meeting of the American Association of Blood Banks, held October 31 - November 4, 1998, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, "Introduction: Although the application of HBV DNA genome amplification testing (GAT) to pooled donations is controversial, it may be of value for single donations. We (1) correlated chimpanzee infectious dose (CID) and HBV DNA copy number sensitivity for 2 GATs, (2) estimated the doubling time (DT) of HBV DNA during primary infection, (3) projected the duration of the 'infectious' preHBsAg WP, and (4) compared the projected vs observed WP reductions (pre-HBsAg) of GAT.
