According to an abstract submitted by the author to the 4th International Congress on Drug Therapy in HIV Infection, held November 8-12, 1998, in Glasgow, United Kingdom, "Dual infection with HIV and hepatitis B and/or C virus is quite common. HIV infection together with HCV-infection have been shown to increase HCV-RNA and accelerate the progression to liver failure. In the past HIV infection have in most cases been the cause of fatal outcome.
