Allele May Play Role in HCV-Related Liver Disease

The DQB1*0502 allele may have a role in promoting hepatitis C virus-related liver disease.

In this study, A. Mangia and colleagues from Italy's Hospital Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza sought to determine whether host-dependent genetic factors modulate the outcome of HCV infection ("HLA Class II Favors Clearance of HCV Infection and Progression of Chronic Liver Damage," Journal of Hepatology, June 1999;30(6):984-989).
