"The Expected Number of Births to Women with Chronic Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Infections in the U.S.: A Meta-Analysis."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 33rd National Immunization Conference, held June 22-25, 1999, in Dallas, Texas, "Background: There was a total of 8,687 reported births to women with chronic HBV infections in 1996. Current estimates of the expected number of births to women who have chronic HBV infections are based on data from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III). Concern has been raised about the reliability of these estimates and their utility at the state level to monitor the adequacy of perinatal hepatitis B prevention strategies.
