Patients with Thyroid Autoantibodies Are Candidates for IFN

The presence of thyroid autoantibodies does not contraindicate interferon therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C, according to a study from Taiwan.

In this study, M.J. Huang and colleagues sought to clarify controversies on the prevalence and clinical significance of thyroid autoimmunity in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection by conducting a prospective controlled and follow-up study ("Prevalence and Significance of Thyroid Autoantibodies in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C Virus Infection," Clin Endocrinol, 1999;50(4):503-509).
