TT Virus

TT Virus Not Associated with Liver Disease in Hemodialysis Patients

TT virus infection is common in patients on hemodialysis but is not associated with liver disease in this group, according to a report from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Recently, a novel DNA virus, TT virus (TTV), was identified in patients with post-transfusion non-A-G hepatitis.

In this study, X. Forns and colleagues from the NIH analyzed the prevalence and clinical implications of TTV infection in a cohort of 96 Spanish patients on long-term hemodialysis ("High Prevalence of TT virus (TTV) Infection in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis," Journal of Medical Virology, November 1999;59(3):313-317).
