Performance of Commercial Assay for Hepatitis E Antibody of Concern

A comparison study of assays for hepatitis E virus (HEV) antibody detection found a widely used commercial test was less sensitive and produced more inconsistent results than assays developed by the US National Institutes of Health and Japan's National Institutes of Infectious Diseases.

Researcher M. Abdel-Hamid and colleagues at the Minia University School of Medicine, the US and Japanese government agencies, and elsewhere evaluated the assays using samples from a southern Egypt community and from a Nile Delta region community, they said.
