Expression of Cytokine Enhanced with Hepatitis C Virus

The cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) may play a significant role in the inflammatory disease processes of chronic hepatitis C.

This role has been studied by researchers at Japan's Niigata University and was reported in the journal Liver.

Scientists measured serum IL-6 levels in 63 patients with chronic hepatitis C and 26 normal patients. They also performed studies on 10 liver biopsy specimens to localize IL-6 protein and IL-6 mRNA.
