Recovery from Hepatitis C May Depend on Characteristics of Immune Response

Recovery for the chronic hepatitis C patient most likely depends on the specific type of immune response expressed, according to M.J. Koziel of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard University Medical Center, Massachusetts.

"Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is notable for the high rate of chronic infection, which occurs in nearly all individuals who become infected," Koziel wrote in a conference abstract entitled "The immunopathogenesis of hepatitis C virus," presented at the 7th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, held from January 30 - February 2, 2000, in San Francisco, California.
