New Vaccines Expected to Bolster Adult Immunization Sales

The U.S. market for vaccines totaled $2.0 billion in 1999, growing 8.6% annually from 1994, according to a recent study published by Kalorama Information, a publisher of market research.

Sales are expected to increase 6.9% annually from 1999-2004, reaching 2.8 billion. Sales of pediatric vaccines were the largest industry segment, accounting for 64.3% of overall revenues in 1999, and reaching $1.3 billion.

Adult vaccines grew 9.9% annually between 1994-1999 to $711.2 million, an increase of $266 million over the five-year period. Overall domination of the market came from Merck & Company, SmithKline Beecham, Pasteur Merieux Connaught, and...
