TT Virus Common in U.S. Blood Donors

Researchers have found that exposure to TT virus, a novel, nonenveloped, single-stranded, circular DNA virus, may be common in blood donors in the United States.

To investigate the prevalence of TTV in blood donors, A. Handa and colleagues used two sets TTV primers to identify viral DNA in donors from five U.S. cities ("Prevalence of the newly described human circovirus, TTV, in United States blood donors," Transfusion, 2000;40(2):245-251).

NG059/NG061/NG063 primers were used to amplify the conserved region of strains 1 and 2. T801/T935 primers were used to amplify the 5' end region of the TTV sequence.
