Genetic Factors Predict Progression to Chronic Liver Disease

Certain genetic factors may predicate whether a patient with hepatitis C virus will eventually acquire chronic liver disease, say scientists at the University of Queensland's Princess Alexandra Hospital in the journal Hepatology.

"We propose that host genetic factors influencing fibrogenesis may account for some of the variability in progression of this disease," E.E. Powell and associates at the university hypothesized ("Host factors influence disease progression in chronic hepatitis C," Hepatol, 2000;31(4):828-833).
