Hepatitis B Virus Binding Protein Induced by Specific Peptide Sequence

The preS1 (21-27) peptide may be key to uptake of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) binding protein (BP) by cells during viral infection, researchers report.

P. Pontisso et al. presented their findings at the 10^th International Symposium on Viral Hepatitis and Liver Disease, held in Atlanta, Georgia. Their study was titled "Upregulation of the HBV Binding Protein (HBV-BP) preS1 (21-27) Sequence."

"Experiments carried out with serum-derived HBV particles have demonstrated that HBV-BP is responsible for binding and internalization of HBV into human liver cells, underlining its potential biological role in HBV infection," commented Pontisso et....
