Nitrite/Nitrate Test a Good Tumor Marker

Over the past several years, scientists have been using several serum or plasma markers to indicate chronic liver diseases. Two of these include alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT).

Now, scientists in Japan say that nitrite/nitrate can be used in conjunction with AFP as a useful tumor marker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Researchers at the University of Occupational and Environmental Health in Fukuoka, Japan, recently reported study data supporting these findings in the journal Clinical Chimica Acta.
