Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor a Disease Marker

More evidence has pointed to an association between vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), scientists in Korea say.

Their conclusion is based on a study of a variety of pre-cancerous nodules and HCC tumors for the presence of antibodies against VEGF and other cell markers (Y.N. Park et al., "Increased expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and angiogenesis in the early stage of multistep hepatocarcinogenesis," Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, 2000;124(7):1061-1065).
