Water Alone Prevents Transfer of Hepatitis A to Lettuce in Canadian Study

Carriers of the hepatitis A virus can reduce the presence of this virus on their hands by doing something as simple as rinsing their hands with water, according to a study carried out in Canada by government researchers.

Hepatitis A virus can be transmitted when food handlers do not thoroughly wash their hands prior to touching food. The disease itself can be present without any signs or symptoms in infected individuals. These individuals are called "carriers" of the virus.
