Transforming Growth Factor-alpha Associates with Hepatocytes in Liver Cancers

More new evidence that transforming growth factor (TGF)-alpha is significantly expressed in the livers of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been found by researchers at the Asan Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea.

According to those researchers, TGF-alpha may be directly associated with HCC tumor progression, since it appears to influence hepatocyte regeneration ("Expression of transforming growth factor-alpha mRNA in livers of patients with chronic viral hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma," Cancer 2000;89(5):977-982).
