Longer Therapy Better for Patients Who Suffer Hepatitis C Relapse

Longer durations of combination therapy can successfully treat hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients who relapse after an initial round of treatment with interferon, especially if they initially have high levels of viral RNA or are of HCV genotype Ib.

Researchers reported this finding in the Journal of Hepatology ("Combined treatment of relapse of chronic hepatitis C with high-dose a(2)b interferon plus ribavirin for 6 or 12 months," J Hepatol, 2000;33(3):456-462).
