Prevailing Factors Identified in HCV Patients Who Reject Grafts Early

by Sonia Bell-Nichols -- Organ transplant recipients are susceptible to graft rejection, even under the best circumstances. Patients with chronic hepatitis due to hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection have an additional set of circumstances to overcome after they receive liver transplants.

Researchers at Baylor University, Texas, recently described a timeline for individuals with HCV who are more likely to suffer organ rejection after liver transplant surgery. G. Gesta et al. noted in their report, "The time progression of allograft damage in patients with recurrent hepatitis C after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is not precisely determined."
