Preexisting Psychiatric Problems Exacerbate Interferon Side Effects

by Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer -- Hepatitis C virus patients with psychiatric problems experience more side effects and have greater difficulty coping with side effects when they begin to take interferon, researchers say.

This finding, based on a study of a veteran population infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV), was reported in the American Journal of Gastroenterology by medical investigators at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
