Interferon Treatments Generate Autoantibodies In Adrenal Cortex

by Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer - New research performed in Germany indicates interferon-alpha therapy for hepatitis C virus (HCV) generates a low level of adrenal autoantibodies in some patients.

Previous studies have shown a link between viral hepatitis, immune therapies, and the development of autoimmune disorders originating in glands such as the thyroid. The latest study has shown that some patients generate autoantibodies to protein antigens in the adrenal cortex as well as in the thyroid and pancreas.
