Teaching Hospitals in Japan Rarely A Source Of Hepatitis C Transmission

by Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer - The results of a multi-center study show hepatitis C virus (HCV) is rarely transmitted at Japanese university hospitals.

The transmission of bloodborne pathogens such as HCV has always been a risk for hospitalized patients who undergo medical or dental procedures, particularly when established precautions are not followed. However, researchers in Japan suggest HCV transmissions in patients undergoing procedures at university hospitals are actually very low.
