Fas Antigen On Liver Cells Predicts Sustained Response To Interferon

by Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer - Fas antigen is an independent predictor of sustained response to interferon therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C, researchers say.

"Interaction between Fas antigen on hepatocytes and Fas ligand on cytotoxic T cells induces apoptosis, a major mechanism of hepatitis C virus (HCV) -induced hepatocyte injury," stated S. Abe and co-authors in the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology.
