Hepatitis B or C viruses, alcoholic cirrhosis, and liver toxins are the most frequent causes of primary liver cancer, or hepatocellular carcinoma.
Patients with unresectable stage IV-A hepatocellular carcinoma have relatively few chemotherapeutic treatment options. However, researchers in Japan now say that enteric-coated tegafur/uracil could significantly prolong survival for a number of these patients.
