Staffing Is A Factor In New HCV Infections In Hemodialysis Patients

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - The lack of sufficient staff and high hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection rates increase a hemodialysis patient's odds for acquiring the virus at some facilities, researchers in Italy report.

An analysis of almost 3,500 patients who underwent hemodialysis at several centers in Italy between 1997 and 1998 suggests increasing staffing levels, thus improving infection control practices, may be one way to overcome nosocomial transmissions in dialysis centers.
