Hepatitis C Virus Primary Cause Of Hepatocellular Carcinoma In Egypt

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - Researchers have identified hepatitis C virus (HCV) as the number one cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a form of primary liver cancer, in Egypt.

Populations with a high prevalence of HCV or hepatitis B virus (HBV) frequently experience a greater rate of HCC. According to University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center investigators, HCV infections, common in Egypt, are the leading cause of HCC in that country.
