Report Describes Nature Of Hepatitis B, C, and D Coinfections

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - Genomic factors don't seem to affect viral replication in patients coinfected with hepatitis B, C, and D viruses, researchers in Spain report.

However, hepatitis C virus infections do appear to predominate in patients with hepatitis coinfections, according to the researchers, who work at the University Hospital Vall d'Hebron in Barcelona.

As compared with patients with singular HBV or HCV infections, HBV-DNA and HCV-RNA levels were lower in patients with HBV/HCV, HBV/HDV, or HBV/HCV/HDV coinfections, R. Jardi and colleagues noted.
