Kansas Health Officials Say Hepatitis Outbreak Is Over

Kansas state health officials say an outbreak of hepatitis A in the state is over although scattered cases may still be reported.

Mike Heideman, spokesman for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, said December 6, 2001, no new cases have been reported since October 26. Because the disease has a 50- to 60-day incubation period, the outbreak apparently is over.

Reno County reported 88 cases of the disease since mid-November of 2000. The number of cases reported in surrounding counties included: Barton, 15; Rice, 2; and Sedgwick, 20.
