ICN Pharmaceuticals Pleads Guilty To Securities Fraud For Virazole

ICN Pharmaceuticals, Inc., has agreed to plead guilty to one count of federal securities fraud and pay a $5.6 million fine for failing to disclose that its drug ribavirin would not be approved as a sole treatment for hepatitis C.

The Costa Mesa, California-based company, which was arraigned December 17, 2001, in U.S. District Court, also will be placed on three years probation and must create a corporate compliance program to prevent future violations, U.S. Attorney John S. Gordon said. The company also must pass annual certifications of compliance.
