The results demonstrated for the first time that full units of Inactine-treated red cells could be safely reinfused into healthy volunteers after 42 days of storage.
The Phase II study included 48 healthy adult volunteers and evaluated the safety and maximum storage time of a full unit of red blood cells treated with Inactine for 24 hours versus untreated red blood cells.
