Abbott wins sole supplier contract for blood screening tests

Abbott Laboratories (ABT) announced it has been awarded a multiyear contract as the exclusive supplier of six infectious disease tests used for screening blood donated to the American Red Cross.

The tests consist of markers for hepatitis, HIV, and other retroviruses.

"This agreement builds upon our long-standing relationship with the American Red Cross and represents our mutual commitment to ensuring the safety of the blood supply," said Thomas D. Brown, senior vice president, diagnostic operations, Abbott Laboratories.
