In one of the first studies of its kind, epidemiologists in South Africa have traced nephropathic syndromes in HBV-infected black children to genetic factors by studying HLA antigen frequencies among affected individuals and unaffected controls. Their report of that study highlights the genetic frequencies that might indicate a greater risk for membranous nephropathy (MN) among the study population.
