Vaccine incorporating encapsulated cytokines protects against liver cancer recurrence

B.G. Peng and colleagues at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) in Japan evaluated vaccines to prevent recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma. The investigators designed a vaccine containing cytokines encased within particles that degrade over time, providing a slow release of the cytokines rather than bolus release.
