In fact, laboratory tests have confirmed the avian virus cross-reacts with assays for the other hepatitis E viruses (HEV), according to G. Haqshenas and colleagues, who work at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia. The putative capsid protein of avian HEV shares the most homology with swine and human forms of the virus, according to the researcher's report.
