Postsurgical hepatitis linked to shortened survival

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - Postoperative hepatitis increases the risk for poor outcomes in patients who undergo surgery for hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related liver cancer.

Patients who undergo surgery for HCV-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) typically undergo a battery of tests at follow-up to check for recurrent liver dysfunction, or hepatitis. One of those tests is for alanine aminotransferase (ALT), an enzyme associated liver disorder.
